In town

Dorf, Platz, Promenade: getting your bearings.

Davos is easier to understand when you stop imagining a compact square and picture a town stretched along a valley. The place names start to make sense, and so does the reason to leave a little space between meetings.

Learn a few landmarks, then explore

Davos Dorf and Davos Platz are the two names you will meet repeatedly in station listings and addresses. The Promenade links much of the town’s activity, with hotels, shops and gathering places along the way. Once you know which end your accommodation is near, planning a day becomes more intuitive.

Pin the places you really need first: your accommodation, your first venue and somewhere to meet a colleague. Avoid using a hotel name alone as the meeting instruction. A street entrance, reception desk or named room is much easier for two people to find independently.

Plan for the whole journey

A route estimate gets you moving, but your real journey also includes collecting your coat, checking the right entrance and reaching the room. Snow, queues and temporary controls can add time. Leave a comfortable gap rather than filling every minute of the calendar.

Some venues are above town. For Schatzalp, the funicular is part of the journey; check departures, tickets and the last return with the operator. Treat a mountain transfer as its own plan, especially for an evening gathering. Do not replace it with an improvised uphill shortcut.

Ask about your guest card

Your accommodation may issue a Davos Klosters guest card with local transport benefits. The valid zones depend on the accommodation and card, so ask what your own card covers. It is not a pass for every journey in Switzerland.

Check the return journey before an evening event. The local PickMeUp invia service has separate conditions and does not accept the guest card. A quick check of the current journey planner is more useful than remembering a bus time from an earlier visit.
